Worth dying for

I have started reading Mark Batterson’s new book “Wild Goose Chase”. It is starting out to be a nice read about how we need to renew our passion for Christ and uncage what is within us. We have as God’s people lost the adventure of following after the Holy Spirit. We have tamed our faith and put it in a cage. Being a follower of Christ should be wild and crazy not tame and secure.

He writes:

“We start dying when we have nothing worth living for. And we don’t really start living until we find something worth dying for. Ironically, discovering something worth dying for is what makes life worth living. “

This really stuck out to me. Have I lost my passion for things worth dying for? Or am I comfortable doing good things that are safe. Have I forgotten why I got into what I got into? Why do I do what I do? Have I died because I am living for something that isn’t worth dying for?

Jesus had something worth dying for…Us. Maybe that is why he lived such a full and exciting life.

What do I have worth dying for? My job, retirement, house, car, paycheck, or lifestyle.

What I think is worth dying for?

  • Seeing kids rescued from unsafe environments
  • Helping families get out of the cycle of poverty
  • Seeing drugs eradicated from apartment buildings
  • Unveiling people’s eyes so they can see the Son of God who has been there the whole time

Those are things worth dying for.

But we need to step out of our cages and be wild and start to dream.
